12. Archiving and Preservation
The Archiving and Preservation work package works to provide guidance and easy to use tools to help small open access presses archive and preserve their books and associated content (e.g. video, audio files etc.). They have created a help guide which outlines tiers of options available to publishers (i.e. good, better, best) with the overarching message that there isn’t a single solution which will be suitable or useful for all publishers.
We have also created the Thoth Open Archiving Network (TOAN). TOAN offers publishers the option of automatically archiving their publications in multiple repository locations, thereby filling a significant gap in preservation infrastructure. This initiative provides an essential safeguard against the risk of complete loss of their catalogue, supporting the long-term accessibility and preservation of scholarly works.
Finally, they seek to enable publishers or authors to create archival, or robust, links for linked content in their material. Their aim is to enable publishers and authors to be able to automate as much of these processes as possible.
