I want to go beyond the legal minimum or explore alternatives to legal compliance

Brilliant, accessibility is so much more than legal requirements, and it could be that going beyond the minimum is right for your small press either in terms of your values and ethics, or because the readership within your community generally requires it.  It could also be that you are exempt from accessibility legislation (although to be exempt in all areas permanently isn't common) and want to consider alternative accessibility goals that are not linked with legal compliance.

Our Principles of Open Accessibility will help you to think about your ethical motivations and can be translated by each press into custom goals. Before you begin to devise alternative plans, you could complete some available online courses and also consult with your readership about their accessibility needs using End User Testing of your existing content or general requirements gathering activities. After this, you might like to capture your plans in an Accessibility Policy.
